The work of Lorca—both poet and playwright—has attracted the attention of musicians from many countries. Spanish composers such as Pittaluga, Elisalde, and Vélez, among others, have created vocal and instrumental pieces based on his texts. The Brazilian composer Villa-Lobos wrote an opera titled *Yerma* based on Lorca’s play of the same name, while the Argentine composer Juan Castro composed music for the film *Blood Wedding*. Lorca’s poetry also drew the interest of Soviet composers, including D. Shostakovich, K. Molchanov, V. Salmanov, and A. Nikolaev.

Among the songs by García Lorca featured on this record, one should highlight "The Muleteer's Song," the lyrical "Little Song," the tragic tale of "Monlevna," Lorca’s favorite "Romance of the Moon, Moon" (which he often performed himself), and the charming 15th-century melody "The Girl from Jérez." The recording and arrangements testify to Lorca’s deep immersion in the musical folklore of his country. Federico de Onís, who was well-acquainted with Lorca’s musical activities, noted that his "own harmonizations were so perfect that they helped convey the true spirit of the songs."
