🎵 The Vinyl Route Through Gijón — Five Record Stores in the Heart of the City

Did you know there are now at least five record stores in the centre of Gijón?

Record shops come and go — and over the years the city has said goodbye to classics like Más Que Música on Calle San Agustín (closed May 2023), Mundo Sonoro on Plaza San Miguel, and others.

But the vinyl revival is very real. If it was ever truly gone.

Young people are discovering the music their parents and grandparents grew up with, and many of us are looking for something authentic in an abstract digital world. There’s nothing quite like holding a real record in your hands: sliding the shiny black vinyl from the inner sleeve, placing the needle down, and waiting for those magical few seconds before the first notes begin. Older generations that are still collecting vinyl or have started collecting vinyl they used to have. Collecting and listening to vinyl is something for everyone.

You sit down, maybe with a coffee or vermouth, and listen with your whole body — fully present. Music that can lift you up, calm you down, move you emotionally, or get you dancing.

In the last year alone, three new record stores have opened in the city centre, making it the perfect place for a vinyl-hunting walk. Here’s a route to visit them all — and even stop for a drink where music is the star.

We start at La Bomba Records on Avenida Manuel LLaneza, La Bomba has been an Asturian staple for more than 25 years with their location at the train Station in Oviedo. In the summer of 2025 they opened the store on Manuel Llaneza with over 10,000 items including a large selection of second hand records, CDs and much more.

CH Sonido is next on our walk. This is mainly a Hi-Fi store that has been around since 1987. But what many don't know is that there are many boxes of great second hand vinyls all throughout the store for the full crate digging experience.

We then walk towards the beach where we find MITA Record Store. This is more than just a record shop — it’s a meeting point for lovers of electronic music and beyond. They offer a carefully curated selection of vinyl across a wide range of genres: House, Techno, Electro, Minimal, Ambient, IDM..., as well as essential sounds from the worlds of Jazz, Soul, Funk, Disco, and World Music. From in-store DJ sets and interviews with independent artists and labels, to live showcases and deep record recommendations, this channel is a window into our passion for vinyl culture and underground music. Digging, culture, community…

After that it is a short walk to three more stores. The nearest one will be Session Records which is my store. There are over 1,000 second hand records with a large collection of Jazz and a large section of 10 Euro records in other genres like funk, soul, world. Many records are almost as new and you can find anything from every decade including contemporary bands and artists like Nick Cave, Foals, The Mars Volta to name a few. You can listen to any used record before you buy and Session Records is also happy to put the vinyl on it's audiophile system to enjoy the music at the highest sound quality possible. New records are not yet available but will be within a few weeks.

Just a few steps around the corner you will find Collection. Here you can find a large collection of classic rock, jazz, Spanish and Asturian music as well as collectable 7"s and CDs. Apart from music the store has a variety of antiques and other collectibles and cool vintage items.

Our final vinyl destination is the legendary Librería Paradiso. Open since 1976, it’s not only one of Gijón’s most iconic bookstores but the only one where books and music live together. Signed records, old concert posters and framed gig tickets fill the walls — even if you don’t buy anything, it’s worth a visit.

During the walk there are many other stores and places to enjoy a drink and food. If your bag is not too heavy with records and books, you can continue to walk to Cimavilla, the old neighborhood of Gijón, where this year Futuro Cafe opened. Music is central here and can be enjoyed when DJs are spinning vinyl while sipping on a cocktail.

If you prefer to stay in the neighbourhood check out Meidinerz for live jazz music. Check the website for programming and tickets.

If you prefer a more underground vibe you can continue to walk up the neighbourhood and check out T.N.T. Rock Bar where DJs start spinning just after midnight until the wee hours in the morning. Expect rock, indie, garage, punk, rock 'n' roll, rockabilly. An incredible atmosphere full of energy and character.

Gijón is not only a 'natural paradise', but also a paradise for music lovers. We hope to see you soon!
