Vinyl Club Gijón: Bring a Record, Share a Story

A record store is a place to discover music and share it with everyone — and that's the idea behind our new monthly event, Vinyl Club.

We'd like to invite you to the store on Thursday, August 27th to bring one or two of your favourite records and play a track or two from them over the audiophile sound system at Session Records. Sign up here to grab one of the spots.

Participation is limited to 20 people.

There will be beer and wine, and no entrance fee.

A couple of guidelines

Records need to be clean, VG or better (we can clean them in store if needed)
Keep track lengths under 10 minutes — ideally around 4–7 minutes
No racist or sexist content, in the music or in what you share about it
All genres are welcome
You don't need to be a DJ — everyone's welcome to bring a record and press play

How does it work?

We start at 19:30, and the store will be closed to the general public for the evening. Bring one (or two) records with a track you'd like to share. We'll go around in a circle for everyone's first track, and if there's time, a second round after that.

Feel free to say a few words about why you picked it — something about the artist, the album, the track, or just what it means to you. Whatever you'd like to share. Then we put it on the system, and we all listen. Talking during the tracks is welcome too.

We expect to wrap up somewhere between 20:30 and 21:00.

Where did this idea come from?

Before moving to Gijón, I lived in Milford, CT, in the US. Over the years I put together a proper audiophile hi-fi system there — the kind of sound I wanted other people to experience too. I also found myself thinking back to a time before streaming, when discovering new music meant listening to the radio, or going over to a friend's place and digging through their record collection.

I wanted to bring back some of that excitement — sharing music together, and stumbling onto something you'd never have found on your own. So I started hosting listening evenings in my basement with friends and fellow collectors: pick a theme, bring some drinks, and take turns sharing records on my system.

Now we're bringing that same idea to Session Records.
